Common questions
Can I connect my own domain to a ChatGPT site?
Yes, for a domain you already own - an apex domain or a subdomain. In the Site's settings you choose Add domain, enter your domain, and add the DNS records Sites shows you at your registrar. OpenAI sets which plans and workspace types this reaches, so check yours. Just Domain gives you full DNS, so those records go straight into your dashboard.
Does ChatGPT register the domain for me?
No. OpenAI's documentation for ChatGPT Sites states that Sites does not register a domain for you - you need a domain you own, from a registrar, and the ability to edit its DNS records. That registrar step is exactly what Just Domain does. (OpenAI Help Center, checked August 2026.)
Do I have to move my site or change hosting?
No. Your site stays built and hosted by ChatGPT. The domain simply points at it - you're changing the address on the front, not the building behind it.
Which ending should I pick?

What DNS records will I need?
Sites shows you the exact records when you add the domain - typically a record pointing the domain at your site plus a verification record. You don't need to know them in advance: copy what Sites shows into your Just Domain dashboard, then refresh the status in Sites.
My records are in - why isn't the domain working yet?
DNS changes take time to spread across the internet - usually minutes, sometimes a few hours. If the Sites status hasn't turned green after that, re-check each record for typos and refresh again.
